Mosquitoe War

Day 42
Feb 12, 2016
Friday
Steam Boat Ck
near mm 1130

We left Dinner Key in Biscayne Bay and headed south.  We had not particular destination in mind just a safe place to drop anchor for the night.  We had sunny warm weather and got on shorts, tee shirts and went barefoot.  Happy campers we were.  We stopped at an anchorage about a mile off the ICW called Steam Boat Creek and we had it all to ourselves.  Unfortunately we got a little to close to the land and the mosquitoes found us.  They love me.  Lee put steaks on the bar b q and it was dusk. They invaded before he was through. He got several bites. I got upwards of 50 and am very sensitive to their poison. I could not even enjoy my food.

We declared war and started swatting with the fly swatter and killed 35 in the eating area of the boat and another dozen in the sleeping area and the cockpit was full of them too. Oddly Journey was a little behind us and they were far enough not to get any of them at all. I will itch for weeks. Hate mosquitoes!!! I did not sleep at all for scratching.

Pleasant day but from dusk on it was miserable. Headed for Islamorada tomorrow.
